SIWAN, Bihar: At least five people have been killed after a massive explosion during illegal firecracker manufacturing in Alampur village under Jamo Bazar police station limits in Bihar's Siwan district, with officials warning the toll could rise as rescue operations continue.
According to Siwan Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni, the blast reduced a house to rubble and trapped several members of the same family. A fire broke out following the explosion, triggering continuous blasts for nearly two hours.
The explosion occurred around 5:30 pm on Friday at the house of Alampur resident Mohd Amiruddin Mian, who is said to be a firecracker trader. The force was so intense that debris from the front portion of the house fell onto the road.
Eight people were believed to be inside the house at the time. Three persons escaped with minor burn injuries and were rushed to a local hospital. Bodies recovered so far include Amiruddin Mian (65), his two granddaughters aged 14 and 8, a 10-year-old neighbour boy and one unidentified person, officials said.
The District Magistrate, Siwan, Superintendent of Police, Siwan, and Sub-Divisional Officer, Maharajganj, are overseeing the inspection at the spot. Teams from the district administration, fire services, electricity department, dog squad and medical department have been deployed.
Action Over Negligence:
Taking note of alleged local negligence, Siwan SP Bharat Soni ordered the immediate suspension of Jamo Bazar Station House Officer (SHO) Dhiraj Kumar and local chowkidar Chandrika Manjhi.
