HYDERABAD: A major safety scare on IndiGo flight 6E6115, operating Delhi to Chennai on Oct 11, 2026, forced an emergency landing in Hyderabad after a passenger's power bank caught fire inside the overhead luggage compartment.

According to officials, smoke was detected from a personal electronic device mid-flight. A 36-second video recorded by a passenger shows the overhead bin smoking and passengers panicking, trying to put out the blaze by dabbing it with their bags before crew intervened.

IndiGo Statement:

"IndiGo flight 6E 6115, operating from Delhi to Chennai on October 11, 2026, was diverted to Hyderabad after smoke was detected from a customer's personal electronic device. The cabin crew responded promptly, and the situation was brought under control. In line with established protocols, the pilots diverted the flight and landed safely at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad. An alternate aircraft was arranged for passengers to continue the journey to Chennai."

Airline added: "We regret inconvenience... Safety of our customers and crew remains our top priority."

Why This Is Against Rules:

As per IndiGo baggage policy on website:

Power banks & spare/loose lithium batteries are permitted ONLY in hand baggage

Must remain within passenger's personal reach at all times under the seat, in seat pocket, or on person

Must NOT be stowed in overhead compartments or checked baggage

In this case fire was in overhead compartment clear violation.

All passengers and crew reported safe. No injuries. DGCA & IndiGo technical team investigating battery failure.
