Ganga Boat Accident During Embankment Work Leaves Labourers Missing

Bhagalpur, Bihar: A boat carrying labourers capsized in the Ganga in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district on Wednesday while workers were engaged in flood-control and embankment repair work.
According to reports, the boat overturned amid strong currents near the breached embankment. The vessel reportedly sank within seconds, prompting an immediate rescue operation.
There is, however, a discrepancy in early reports regarding the number of people on board and those missing. Some reports said 22 labourers were aboard, with 21 rescued and one missing, while other reports put the number of missing workers higher.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with local rescuers and divers, has launched a search operation in the fast-flowing Ganga. The workers had been involved in efforts to control flooding and protect the embankment from further erosion.
Dramatic visuals of the boat rapidly sinking have surfaced, highlighting the dangerous conditions faced by workers carrying out emergency embankment-restoration work.
