‘How Much Longer Will Britain Remain Silent?’ Jemima Urges UK to Act for Imran Khan

Jemima Goldsmith Urges UK to Intervene Over Imran Khan’s Prison Treatment

Jemima Goldsmith, the former wife of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, has urged UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband to publicly intervene over what she described as a “human-rights emergency.”

Goldsmith alleged that Khan has faced prolonged solitary confinement and has been denied regular access to his family, lawyers, books and doctors. She also claimed that his sons, Sulaiman and Kasim, have been unable to visit him.

Her appeal comes amid growing concerns over Khan’s health. Pakistan’s Supreme Court recently ordered that he be transferred to a private hospital and receive treatment from a medical panel including his personal physician, although the government subsequently challenged the order.

The UK government has previously said it continues to urge Pakistan to respect fundamental freedoms, human rights and its international obligations.
