Kangana Faces ‘Hypocrisy’ Claims After Old National Award Outfit Resurfaces

New Delhi: Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has come under fresh criticism on social media after an old video of her receiving a National Award resurfaced amid the ongoing controversy over Kriti Sanon’s Raksha Bandhan jewellery advertisement.
Kangana had criticised Kriti’s outfit in the advertisement, questioning its appropriateness for a traditional festival. Kriti later defended her choice and argued that cultural values should not be judged solely by what a woman wears.
Soon after, a video from 2015, showing Kangana receiving her National Award from then President Pranab Mukherjee, began circulating online. In the clip, Kangana is seen wearing a strapless Western-style outfit. Social media users contrasted her appearance with Kriti Sanon and other actresses who have worn sarees while receiving National Awards.
The resurfaced video has triggered accusations of “hypocrisy” against Kangana, with users questioning whether the same standards about traditional dressing should apply to everyone.
The controversy has also intensified after jewellery brand GIVA withdrew the Raksha Bandhan advertisement featuring Kriti following the backlash.
The episode has once again sparked a wider debate over fashion, cultural traditions, personal choice and whether celebrities should be judged differently for their clothing choices.
