Mamdani Opposes Bhagwat’s Madison Square Garden Event, Calls RSS Vision ‘Exclusionary’
New York Mayor Mamdani Opposes Mohan Bhagwat’s Madison Square Garden Event
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has opposed RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s planned August 29 event at Madison Square Garden, describing the organisation’s vision as “exclusionary.” Bhagwat is expected to address around 5,000 members of the Indian diaspora at the “Universal Oneness Celebration” as part of the RSS centenary-year global outreach programme.
Mamdani said he does not support the rally but acknowledged that the city may not have the legal authority to cancel a privately organised event. The mayor’s remarks have sparked a fresh debate over the RSS, pluralism and freedom of expression in the Indian-American community.
