Mecca’s Royal Clock Tower was dramatically illuminated by a powerful lightning strike during a thunderstorm on the night of August 26. The spectacular moment, captured by photographer Yusuf Bajaj, showed a bright bolt of lightning striking the vicinity of the iconic landmark amid heavy rain and stormy weather.
Saudi astronomer Mulham Hindi also shared photographs and videos showing lightning and adverse weather conditions in Mecca. He explained that thunderstorms and lightning activity are commonly observed in Mecca and parts of western Saudi Arabia during August and September.
The striking images quickly attracted attention on social media, with the illuminated Royal Clock Tower creating a dramatic scene against the stormy night sky.
