NCCIA Probe: Imam’s Mobile Examined, Rizwan’s Non-Cooperation Reportedly Delays Investigation
Pakistan’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is continuing its inquiry involving cricketers Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq over alleged dressing-room information leaks and related financial matters.
According to reports published on September 27, the NCCIA has completed the forensic examination of Imam-ul-Haq’s mobile phone. Investigators are continuing to analyse the information recovered from the device.
Rizwan Yet to Complete Phone Examination
The latest reports say the NCCIA has contacted Mohammad Rizwan several times regarding the forensic examination of his phone, but he has not yet complied with the agency's latest request. The agency is reportedly expected to contact him again and could issue another notice if the process remains incomplete.
Rizwan had previously said that he was cooperating with the investigation. He also challenged the NCCIA proceedings before the Lahore High Court. The court subsequently directed him to cooperate with the inquiry while instructing the agency to proceed according to law and avoid unnecessary harassment.
What Is the NCCIA Investigating?
The inquiry began following allegations concerning the leaking of information from Pakistan's dressing room during the team's England Test series. Investigators have examined messages, contacts and other digital information from the players' devices. Reports have also said that financial transactions connected to the relevant period are being reviewed.
Earlier forensic reporting indicated that the initial examination of the two phones had not produced any significant findings, although further analysis was continuing.
No Final Finding Against Either Player
The investigation remains ongoing, and there has been no final finding establishing wrongdoing by either Rizwan or Imam-ul-Haq. The NCCIA is expected to complete its inquiry before submitting its findings to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which will then consider the matter.
