Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday led the nation in paying rich tributes to the revered Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his Jayanti, describing him as a visionary leader, exceptional administrator, strategic thinker, and a champion of Swarajya whose life continues to inspire generations across India.

In a post shared on X, PM Modi expressed his reverence, stating, “On the Jayanti of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, we bow in reverence to the visionary leader, exceptional administrator, strategic thinker and champion of Swarajya. May his courage inspire us, his governance guide us and his spirit of justice and self-respect strengthen our society.”

Accompanying his tribute was a video message where the Prime Minister elaborated on Shivaji Maharaj’s extraordinary personality. He highlighted that Shivaji Maharaj transcends being merely a historical figure, embodying a source of deep reverence for millions, symbolizing courage and national pride.

The Prime Minister further emphasized Shivaji Maharaj's unwavering commitment to public welfare, noting that the Maratha ruler always prioritized the protection and well-being of every individual. This devotion to his people, PM Modi asserted, is why Shivaji Maharaj’s life remains a guiding light for India through the ages. He added that while establishing Swarajya, Shivaji Maharaj also laid strong emphasis on good governance, leaving behind a profound legacy that continues to shape national consciousness and inspire principles of justice and self-respect.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti is observed annually on February 19 to mark the birth anniversary of the founder of the Maratha Empire. This year commemorates his 395th birth anniversary. The day is celebrated with immense pride and devotion across the country, particularly in Maharashtra, which was the heartland of his kingdom.

Shivaji Maharaj is remembered as one of India’s greatest warrior kings and a brilliant military tactician. He famously fought numerous battles against Mughal forces and was crowned Chhatrapati in 1674, marking a pivotal moment in Indian history.
