Iranian Lawmaker Predicts US Will Abandon Iran Blockade Within Months

An Iranian lawmaker has predicted that the United States will abandon its blockade of Iran within a few months after concluding that the measure has failed to achieve its objectives.

Ahmad Bakhshayesh Ardestani, a member of Iran’s Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said Washington would not be able to sustain the blockade indefinitely.

“The United States cannot maintain the blockade for long,” Ardestani said, arguing that the US would eventually conclude that the pressure was having little effect and withdraw the measure.

Economic Pressure Could Raise Prices

Ardestani said he did not expect Iran’s economy to collapse because of the blockade, although he acknowledged that continued restrictions could inflict economic losses and push up the prices of the US dollar and gold.

The comments come as Iran faces mounting economic pressure. The rial fell to a record low on Sunday, with the US dollar reaching around 2 million rials on Iran’s open market.

Iranian officials have continued to reject Washington’s economic pressure. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that the latest US campaign would fail, while the Revolutionary Guards said they had plans to counter the economic measures.

‘Deal With Corruption After the War’

The Iranian lawmaker also called for postponing efforts to tackle corruption until the current war ends.

Ardestani argued that some level of corruption was inevitable during wartime and that authorities should focus on dealing with the issue after the conflict is over.

His remarks come amid growing debate inside Iran over how the country should balance military resistance with economic stability. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf recently warned that military strength alone would not be enough if economic hardship left people struggling.
