Encroachments Demolished Along Sukhna River Bank in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, 20 May 2026

Acting on the orders of Municipal Commissioner Amol Yedge and under the guidance of Anti-Encroachment Officer Santosh Wahule and Deputy Commissioner Savita Sonawane, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) today carried out a major anti-encroachment drive along the banks of the Sukhna River in Moti Wala Colony, Chikhalthana.

Officials emphasized that removing encroachments from the riverbank is not merely an administrative action but a crucial step for the river’s existence, ecological balance, and public safety.

Why the Action Was Necessary.

The Sukhna River is a vital part of the city’s natural drainage system. Encroachments on the riverbed and riverbanks obstruct water flow during monsoon, increasing the risk of floods. Unauthorized constructions along the river also pose a serious threat to life, as a sudden rise in water levels during heavy rains can lead to loss of life and property. The municipal corporation stressed that keeping the riverbank encroachment-free is the need of the hour.

Details of the Drive:

The CSMC had issued repeated notices to encroachers to remove their constructions voluntarily. A total of 32 encroachers were identified in the action. While some citizens removed the encroachments themselves, the remaining 25 illegal structures were demolished by the municipal corporation. The drive also included the demolition of a two-storey gym constructed on the riverbank.

Future Action:

The administration stated that the municipal corporation will continue such actions to keep the riverbed and riverbanks encroachment-free, ensure smooth natural flow, reduce flood risk, and prioritize citizen safety.

The operation was successfully executed with the participation of Zone 6 Designated Officer Nilesh Patni, Building Inspectors Ganesh Veer, Desai, Sagar, and staff of the Anti-Encroachment Department.
