Veteran Journalist Abdul Qayum Remembered for His Social Commitment and Service to Journalists
Senior Journalist Abdul Qayum Passes Away at 58; Condolences Pour In from Media and Social Circles
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, October 4: Senior journalist and social worker Abdul Qayum Abdul Rashid, 58, passed away while undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), popularly known as Ghati Hospital, in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Saturday.
Qayum, a resident of Buddhi Lane in the Old Bazaar area, was the chief editor of the weekly newspaper Aurangabad Yuva. His death has sent a wave of grief through the journalism and social sectors of the city.
Through Aurangabad Yuva, Qayum worked to highlight social issues and give a voice to people seeking justice. Colleagues and acquaintances remembered him as a journalist who was always willing to help people facing difficulties and would continue pursuing an issue until it was resolved.
Apart from journalism and social work, Qayum was also associated with the Congress party and had served in various positions, earning a place for himself in the organisation.
He was also serving as the state president of the weekly newspaper wing of the journalists' organisation Voice of Media. Through the organisation, he actively worked to raise and resolve issues concerning newspapers and journalists.
Voice of Media national president Sandeep Kale expressed grief over Qayum's demise and prayed for strength for the bereaved family to cope with the loss.
Following news of his death, political leaders from various parties, journalists and social workers visited his residence in Buddhi Lane to pay their respects.
According to his family members, Qayum's Namaz-e-Janaza will be offered after the Isha prayers at Jama Masjid, following which his burial will take place at Chitekhana cemetery.
He is survived by his mother, two brothers, one son, two daughters and grandchildren.
The death of Abdul Qayum has left a void in the local journalism community, where he was known for his active involvement in both journalism and social causes.
