QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziullah Lango's residence was targeted in a firing attack on the occasion of Pakistan's Independence Day, August 14.
What Happened:
According to reports, unidentified armed men opened fire at the home of Home Minister Ziullah Lango in Quetta. Security forces immediately reached the spot after the incident. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the attack. The minister and his family were reported to be safe.
An investigation has been launched and security around the minister's residence has been increased.
Context: Violence In Balochistan On Independence Day
The attack comes amid heightened tension in Balochistan around Pakistan's Independence Day.
The province has been seeing a rise in attacks by separatist groups like the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) who oppose celebrations on August 14.
In previous years too, grenade attacks and shootings have been reported in Quetta and other districts ahead of Independence Day, targeting government buildings, flag shops and security personnel.
Pakistani authorities have deployed additional security across Balochistan to prevent further incidents.
