Rakhi Sawant in Legal Trouble Over Suicide Case Linked to Her Reality Show
Rakhi Sawant Faces Non-Bailable Arrest Warrant in 2010 Jhansi Case Linked to ‘Rakhi Ka Insaaf’
Jhansi, October 17, 2026: Bollywood actress and television personality Rakhi Sawant is facing fresh legal trouble after a Jhansi court reportedly issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against her in a case dating back to 2010, linked to her reality television show Rakhi Ka Insaaf.
According to media reports published on Saturday, the warrant was issued after Sawant failed to appear before the court. She has reportedly been directed to appear and complete the bail formalities. The latest development has revived a long-running controversy surrounding the television programme.
What Is the 2010 Jhansi Case?
The case concerns Laxman Prasad Ahirwar, a 24-year-old man from Jhansi who appeared on Rakhi Ka Insaaf, a reality show hosted by Sawant. The programme featured people seeking help with personal and relationship disputes.
According to a complaint filed by Ahirwar's mother, Savitri Devi, her son was allegedly subjected to humiliating remarks during the show, which was telecast in October 2010. The family alleged that the incident left him distressed and that he subsequently stopped eating and became seriously ill. He died in November 2010.
Following his death, a case was registered against Sawant and others at the Prem Nagar police station in Jhansi. The allegations included abetment of suicide, intentional insult and criminal conspiracy under provisions of the Indian Penal Code then in force. The allegations were made by the complainant and were not, by themselves, proof of guilt.
Previous Court Proceedings
The case had attracted considerable attention when it was first reported in 2010. Sawant challenged the FIR, and the Allahabad High Court stayed her arrest in December that year while considering the legal proceedings.
The renewed legal development has once again brought the controversy surrounding Rakhi Ka Insaaf into the public spotlight, particularly questions about the treatment of participants on reality television programmes.
What Happens Next?
The reported non-bailable warrant means Sawant may be required to appear before the court in accordance with its directions. The latest reports indicate that she will have to complete the relevant bail formalities.
The precise terms of the latest court order and any response from Sawant or her legal representatives should be confirmed through official court records or statements from the parties concerned.
The issuance of an arrest warrant does not establish criminal guilt. The allegations and the legal status of the case must be assessed in light of the court record and subsequent judicial orders.
