Amit Shah Set To Bring Bill Linking Custody To Disqualification Of PMs, CMs And Ministers

NEW DELHI Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to introduce new legislation in Parliament concerning the removal of Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers, and Ministers held in custody.

What The Bill Proposes:

Under the proposed law, if a PM, CM, or Minister is held in custody for 30 consecutive days, they could lose power under specified conditions. 

The legislation aims to create a clear legal framework for cases where top constitutional office bearers face prolonged detention.

Next Steps:

The bill will need to go through the full legislative process in both Houses of Parliament before it can become law. This includes introduction, debate, and passage in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, followed by Presidential assent.The move comes amid debates on governance, accountability, and continuity of office when elected representatives face legal proceedings.
