Amit Shah Slams Rahul Gandhi: ‘Deliberately Chose Nov 1 For Rally To Rub Salt Into 1984 Sikh Riot Victims’ Wounds’

NEW DELHI/CHANDIGARH:Union Home Minister Amit Shah targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. He alleged that “Rahul Gandhi deliberately chose November 1 for his rally to rub salt into the wounds of the victims of the Sikh riots.” Shah’s remarks have triggered a fresh war of words between the BJP and the Congress.
Speaking Sunday in Chandigarh after inaugurating projects, and posting on X: “1 November 1984 ko Congress ne Delhi mein hazaron nirdosh Sikhon ka narsanhar karaya tha” On Nov 1, 1984 Congress orchestrated massacre of thousands innocent Sikhs in Delhi, and today on same date Rahul held jalsa in Delhi, rubbing salt in wounds of families.
What Shah Said:- “In 1984, Rajiv Gandhi said when a big tree falls, ground shakes. Today, his son Rahul organised major rally in Delhi on very same day to rub salt into wounds of riot victims.”
“We assumed perhaps he was too young at time, or hadn’t studied history and was unaware.” BJP held press conference requesting not to hold event on Nov 1, 2, 3 — days anti-Sikh riots took place would deeply hurt Sikh community including mothers, sisters, children. But adamant.
“Orders were issued from abroad to hold rally on very day thousands of Sikhs burned alive. From land of Gurus, I strongly condemn this vile attempt. India and Punjab will never forget.”
On traders: Delhi traders pleaded 3-4 times via press conferences, letters, to hold after Diwali peak shopping season, but insistence remained.
On governance: Modi govt reopened all cases after 2014, provided Rs 5 lakh assistance to each victim family, ensured key Congress leaders put behind bars. “India never witnessed, never witness again, riots of such nature instigated by political party.”
On Rahul’s slogan: “If Congress wishes to hold grand rally on dark days of massacre, then Rahulji, nothing except hatred can be taken away from your ‘mohabbat ki dukaan’.”
On ambitions: “She has come up with new approach: holding a ‘mock parliament.’ Rahul ji, you can remain PM in your mock parliament entire life, your turn will never come. Telling lies, spreading anarchy, not letting Parliament function is your fitrat.”
Context: INDIA bloc held “Chalo Dilli” rally Sunday at Ramlila Maidan as part of campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral irregularities (SIR voter deletions). Rally follows symbolic public impeachment Oct 31 at Kharge residence.
Reactions: BJP president Nitin Nabin also lashed out. As of report, Congress/Rahul not publicly responded. Fresh war of words expected.
