New Delhi:The pilot who operated the Air India Phuket-Delhi flight that faced a sudden loss of altitude last week has tested positive for drugs in a confirmatory laboratory screening conducted after the flight, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
What Happened:
The Air India flight from Phuket to Delhi reportedly experienced an unexpected drop in altitude mid-air last week, prompting concern and a post-flight review by authorities.As part of standard procedure following such incidents, the operating pilot underwent post-flight drug and alcohol screening.
Lab Report Confirms Positive Test:
A confirmatory laboratory report received on Tuesday stated that the pilot tested positive for drugs.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the specific substance detected. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Air India have launched a probe into the matter.The pilot has been taken off flying duties pending further investigation, as per aviation safety protocols.Air India said it is cooperating with the DGCA and that passenger safety remains itstop priority.
