Chaos In Kosovo Parliament: Opposition MPs Throw Eggs At Acting PM, Video Goes Viral

From Tear Gas To Eggs: Kosovo Opposition Disrupts Parliament Again

NEWS IN ENGLISH

Chaos erupted in Kosovo’s parliament after opposition MPs threw eggs at the acting Prime Minister during a live session, with video of the incident going viral worldwide.According to reports, the protest took place while the PM was addressing parliament on agreements reached with Serbia. Several opposition lawmakers suddenly stood up and began pelting the Prime Minister with eggs. His bodyguard rushed to shield him with an umbrella.

Parliament Speaker Kadri Veseli immediately halted the session, shouting "Shame, shame, shame!" at the eggthrowing MPs.

The opposition was protesting a EU-brokered deal with Serbia that gives greater local powers to Kosovo’s Serb minority over municipal spending, education and access to funding from Belgrade. The opposition argues the move threatens to deepen ethnic divisions.

This is not the first disruption. Kosovo’s parliament has seen repeated protests in recent years, including tear gas attacks water being thrown at PM Albin Kurti, and brawls over the same issue of relations with Serbia.

Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008, but Belgrade still does not recognize it as sovereign.
