Gavin Newsom To Trump Before Midterms: “If You Interfere With Our Voters, Felony. This Country Belongs To The People, Not A President Who Rigs Rules, Abuses Power, Enriches Himself”
California Governor Gavin Newsom has called on voters to support Democrats in the upcoming US midterm elections, urging them to send a strong political message to President Donald Trump.
In a post on X, Newsom accused Trump of abusing presidential power, manipulating democratic rules and using his position for personal enrichment.
“In two days, we send Donald Trump a message he cannot ignore: This country belongs to the people, not a president who thinks he can rig the rules, abuse his power, and use our democracy to enrich himself. It's time we take our country back,” Newsom wrote.
Democrats are seeking to gain the four additional seats needed to take control of the House of Representatives. However, previous polling setbacks have raised questions about whether the party can translate its electoral momentum into victories.
In follow-up video Nov 2 night ahead of Nov 3 voting, he hardened tone: accused Trump of seeking to invalidate 20,000 voters who followed rules, excuse of widespread illegal voting a lie, part of tactic designed for months to legitimize challenging result. Warned: “Meddle in California's election, and California will come for you. California is dead serious about security. Californians deserve free and fair election. If anyone gets in your way, call 1-877-321-VOTE.”
The midterm elections are expected to be a major test of Trump's presidency and the balance of power in Washington.
