Sania Mirza Mosque Land Donation Claim Is Fake, Says Family Viral Photo With Azharuddin Is AI-Generated
HYDERABAD: Viral claims since October 28 that Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has donated a plot in Hyderabad originally meant for a tennis training academy for construction of a mosque and pledged full building cost are *false*, according to the family.
The claim, shared by pages including Connected Pakistan and Startup Pakistan, said former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin laid the foundation stone and that residents needed a nearby worship place.
Denial And Fact-Check:
Father Imran Mirza issued a clarification on Instagram on Oct 29:
“This is a distorted and fake news story about Sania Mirza that has been doing the rounds on social media for the last few days and I’d like to clarify. The picture of Mr. Azharuddin and Sania that has gone viral is AI-generated. While Sania has every right to use any land bought by her or her family in any manner that she may deem fit, I wish to state that there is no masjid that is being built on the land where the Sania Mirza Tennis Academy has been constructed.”
He added: “Any social or philanthropic work that Sania does now or in future or which she has done in the past is and will remain her private and personal matter. Nobody has the right to publicise it, particularly if Sania has not verified it herself.”
Sania Mirza reshared the statement on her Instagram Stories.
Why Claim Fails Verification:
Sania lives permanently in a villa on Palm Jumeirah, Dubai with son Izhaan; travel records show last Hyderabad visit March 2026, not October for any ceremony.
Telangana Minister Mohammad Azharuddin is very active on social media but his timeline has no mention of any such foundation stone laying; his office failed to verify event when contacted by http://ummid.com.
No official documents, land registry records or approvals for conversion to mosque shown.
Viral image identified as AI-generated.
No mosque is being built on Sania Mirza Tennis Academy land in Hyderabad. The October 28 reports are unverified and denied by the family.
