Surat Priest 'Naresh Bhuva' Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault, Blackmail With Nude Photos: Police.

A priest identified as Naresh Chauhan, also known as "Naresh Bhuva," was taken into custody by Surat police on Sunday after a woman accused him of repeatedly sexually assaulting her and blackmailing her with nude photographs and videos.

FIR Details: Contact Began During Religious Ritual.

According to the FIR registered at Singanpor-Dabholi Police Station, the complainant alleged that she first came into contact with the accused during a religious ritual conducted at her family's residence in November 2024. A few months later, the accused contacted her through Instagram, after which they exchanged phone numbers and remained in touch. 

 Allegations of Drugging, Assault in Hotel.

The woman alleged that in April 2025 the accused called her to a hotel near Singanpor Crossroads under the pretext of offering blessings. She claimed that after consuming prasad given by the accused, she felt dizzy, lost consciousness and later found herself unclothed inside the hotel room. When she confronted him, he allegedly threatened to circulate her nude photographs and videos if she disclosed the incident. 

. Repeated Assault, Blackmail After Marriage.

The complainant further alleged that the accused used the threat of leaking the photographs to repeatedly call her to the same hotel and sexually assault her against her will. She stated that the alleged blackmail continued even after her marriage in February 2026, causing distress in her marital life. 

 Complaint Filed After Informing Family.

According to police, the woman finally informed her mother about the alleged incidents on June 20, following which they approached the police and lodged a complaint. Naresh Chauhan was taken into custody on Sunday. 

Police Investigation Underway.

Police said further investigation is ongoing. The case highlights concerns over abuse of trust by religious figures. Similar cases involving priests and godmen have prompted police to form SITs and examine digital evidence in recent months. 

The allegations are based on the complainant’s FIR. The accused is in custody and the case is under investigation. As per law, the identity of the survivor is not disclosed.
