TEHRAN, July 25, 2026: An Iranian lawmaker on Saturday alleged that the United States could be using threats over the Strait of Hormuz and a nuclear site to distract Tehran while preparing to assassinate another tier of Iranian officials.

"Keeping Us Occupied":

Ahmad Bakhshayesh Ardestani, a member of parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, made the remarks to Iranian news agency ILNA.He said he doubted the United States would launch a ground invasion of Iran, but suggested Washington could pursue other covert options.

"Perhaps they are keeping us occupied with the Strait of Hormuz and Mount Kolang [Pickaxe mountain] so they can once again assassinate another tier of our leaders and officials," Bakhshayesh said.

The reference to "Mount Kolang" appears to be to a sensitive nuclear-related site. There was no immediate response from US officials to the allegations.

Call For Return To Diplomacy:

Despite the warning, Bakhshayesh said he believed Iran and the United States would eventually have to return to negotiations to resolve tensions.

"No war ends without negotiations. All wars end in diplomacy,"he said.

Tensions between Tehran and Washington have remained high over Iran's nuclear program, maritime security in the Gulf, and recent targeted killings of Iranian officials.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil shipping chokepoint, has been a frequent flashpoint in US-Iran relations.
