Iran: Heavy Clashes Reported Between Security Forces and Gunmen in Saravan
Heavy clashes reportedly broke out early Saturday between Iranian military and security forces and unidentified gunmen in the Bakhshan area of Saravan, in southeastern Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province.
According to the rights group Haalvsh, citing local sources, dozens of military and security personnel entered the area at around 4 a.m. local time, after which heavy gunfire was heard across Bakhshan.
Haalvsh said the fighting was continuing and described the clashes as intense. However, there was no immediate confirmed information about the identity or affiliation of the gunmen, what triggered the confrontation, or whether there were any casualties.
