Houthi Strikes Raise Regional Security Concerns as Pakistan Signals Joint Defence Response

Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has warned that the Makkah Defence Alliance could become operational if any member state faces aggression.
Speaking after Houthi strikes targeted southern Saudi Arabia, Asif said Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye are bound by a trilateral defence agreement under which the members could respond collectively if one of them comes under attack.
Asif stressed that the pact is defensive rather than offensive, saying its primary objective is to deter aggression, protect member states and strengthen regional security.
His remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with attacks involving the Houthis adding to concerns over the security of Saudi Arabia and the wider region.
The statement signals that Pakistan views the trilateral arrangement as a potential mechanism for collective defence if hostilities escalate.
