Mahua Moitra Questions Saharanpur Mosque Demolition, Raises Due Process Concerns

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has questioned the demolition of a mosque in Saharanpur, raising concerns over its history, land ownership and whether adequate legal opportunity was provided to those affected.

In a social media post, Moitra claimed that the mosque was built in 1911 on land owned by Yaqoob and Walid Khan, who later donated land for the construction of the District Magistrate’s office.

Moitra alleged that the mosque therefore predates the government building and questioned why it was demolished without giving the affected parties an opportunity to approach the High Court. Describing the action as “disgraceful,” she also raised questions about the circumstances and procedure surrounding the demolition.

The remarks have added to the broader debate over the demolition of religious structures, ownership of public land and adherence to due process.
