BRICS Enters a New AI Arena as Xi Jinping Calls for China-Led Cooperation
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for deeper cooperation among BRICS countries in artificial intelligence (AI), signaling Beijing’s push to make technology a new pillar of the bloc’s global influence.
Speaking at the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, Xi invited BRICS members to participate in a China-led AI cooperation initiative. He also advocated greater collaboration on open-source AI, linking technological development with a new phase of industrialisation.
China’s push comes as AI becomes increasingly important to economic growth, industrial competitiveness and geopolitical influence. Greater cooperation among BRICS nations could potentially help members share technology, develop AI capabilities and reduce dependence on Western technology ecosystems.
