Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Criticises CJP Protest, Challenges Group to Demonstrate in Punjab

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Calls CJP AAP’s ‘B-Team’, Accuses Protests of Disrupting Normal Life

New Delhi, October 14, 2026: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has launched a sharp attack on the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), accusing the youth-led outfit of acting as the “B-team” of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). She also questioned why the group was holding protests in Delhi instead of raising issues in Punjab.

Addressing a press conference, Gupta criticised CJP and other Opposition groups for protesting against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. She alleged that the demonstrations were politically motivated and were causing inconvenience to Delhi residents and financial losses to local businesses.

Gupta Challenges CJP Over Punjab Issues

The Delhi Chief Minister challenged CJP to organise protests in Punjab over the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh, popularly known as Jhota. She questioned the group's focus on Delhi and accused it of ignoring issues in states governed by Opposition parties.

Gupta also defended the SIR exercise, arguing that electoral roll revision was not a new process. She criticised the Congress and AAP for opposing the exercise and accused them of using protests to pursue political objectives. These allegations reflect the BJP government's position and have not been independently established as facts.

Protests Over Electoral Roll Revision

CJP and Opposition groups have been protesting against the SIR process and demanding accountability from the Election Commission. Critics have raised concerns about voter deletions and the potential impact on eligible voters, while the Election Commission and the BJP maintain that the revision is intended to clean up electoral rolls.

The controversy has intensified political tensions in Delhi, with protests, police restrictions and detentions drawing attention to the balance between maintaining public order and protecting the democratic right to peaceful dissent.

The dispute between the Delhi government and the protesting groups continues amid wider debates over electoral transparency, political accountability and the right to protest.
