NEW DELHI:Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipkewas released on conditional bailon Saturday after being detained ahead of the planned ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ Yatra in the national capital.
He was produced before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) at Mandir Marg amid heavy security. The court ordered his release after granting conditional bail he was asked to sign a peace bond and furnish a surety of Rs 50,000. Delhi Police said he will not be sent to judicial custody.
What Happened:
Dipke and All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora were taken into preventive custody on Friday evening while on their way to Connaught Place for the Tiranga march.
Police said Dipke was detained at Jhandewalan, Bora at Mandi House.
Bora was detained under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act and released early Saturday after completing formalities.
Dipke was arrested in a fresh breach-of-peace case under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Police said Dipke had been served two notices directing him not to visit Central Park in Connaught Place but allegedly failed to comply. Police also told the magistrate that he violated the conditions of a peace bond* furnished after an earlier preventive arrest.
Earlier Detention:
This is not the first time. On October 10, Dipke was detained from inside an aircraft at Delhi airport, along with CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Sourav Das. He was then produced before an SEM court the next day and released after furnishing a Rs 50,000 surety bond to maintain peace and good behaviour for one year.
Neha Bora Calls Detention Illegal:
After release, Bora slammed Delhi Police and the BJP-led Centre, calling the detentions “illegal”.
“I was detained at Mandi House and kept here (at the police station) the whole night, until 5 am. Why are you (police) carrying out these illegal detentions? They claim that they adhere to law and order and go by the book, but none of that is happening,”she told PTI Videos.
Her lawyers and AISA alleged she was moved between undisclosed locations for hours (reportedly including an Anti-Narcotics Task Force facility at Palam), kept about five hours as the sole female detainee in a van, and *lawyers were denied access for several hours. She was eventually traced to RK Puram police station around midnight. Claims of medication not being provided despite illness were also raised.
Bora demanded:
Immediate release of all detained protesters, including Dipke
End to the SIR process
Resignation and jailing of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar
Protest Context:
The detentions took place ahead of the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ (Wave the Tricolour) protest at Central Park, Connaught Place, planned for Friday evening as part of the ongoing movement against alleged electoral fraud / SIR. Police said around 150 people were detained to maintain law and order. Security personnel cordoned off Central Park, with Rapid Action Force deployed.
Smaller marches were held nonetheless by students carrying the flag. CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Sourav Das remain in judicial custody in a separate trespass case at Jantar Mantar.
