New Delhi: Amid the CJP protests and nationwide demands, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has not resigned.

Government's Stand:

The government has firmly ruled out Pradhan's resignation.Officials say "there is no basis for his resignation as he had no direct involvement in the alleged leak"The government calls the demand "unrealistic" and says it is open to debate and dialoguGovernment managers feel giving in to the demand would be seen as a "major blow to Modi’s image as a strong leader".Pradhan himself has rejected the demands and accused Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi of "exploiting students as political tools"*. 

 Viral Fake Resignation Letter:

Amid the protests, letters claiming to be his resignation letter went viral on social media.

One fake letter read: "Respected Rashtrapati Ji, I, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, hereby tender my resignation from the office of the Union Minister of Education".

Fact: The resignation letter is fake.

Who Is Demanding Resignation?

CJP: Main demand is Pradhan's immediate removal and ₹1 crore compensation for families of students who allegedly died by suicide.

Congress & INDIA Bloc: Rahul Gandhi said "Until Dharmendra Pradhan resigns and a foolproof system is established to prevent paper leaks like NEET, we will not stop".

AAP: Arvind Kejriwal said "Dharmendra Pradhan should resign, and PM should make Sonam Wangchuk the Education Minister".

JNUTA: Demanded "Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan must immediately resign to save the integrity of education system".Protests were held in Delhi, Patna, Bengaluru, Chennai, Bhubaneswar on July 21. 

 What Pradhan Is Doing Now:

Despite protests, Pradhan addressed a two-day conference of education ministers on July 23, emphasising school education and NEP 2020.

Two DU colleges  Shyam Lal College and Shaheed Bhagat Singh College - also praised him for "successful conduct of Re-NEET 2026". 

Claim vs Fact:

Activist Sonam Wangchuk claimed that Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh assured him the government would "positively consider" Pradhan's resignation. However, no official confirmation has come from the government, which maintains he will continue.
