NEW DELHI:External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held talks with Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, reviewing multiple dimensions of bilateral cooperation and reaffirming the positive momentum in India-Uzbekistan ties.The conversation took place over phone recently, where both leaders discussed ways to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations. 

Key Points From The Talks:

Bilateral Cooperation: Jaishankar said they "reviewed the various dimensions of our bilateral cooperation" and expressed confidence that "the positive momentum in our ties will continue moving forward".

2026 Agenda: FM Saidov noted they held a "comprehensive exchange on the 2026 agenda of Uzbekistan-India cooperation, both bilaterally and multilaterally".

Trade & Investment: In a separate meeting in Delhi, both leaders discussed cooperation in connectivity, investment, trade and energy sectors. Last month, India and Uzbekistan agreed to deepen trade ties and work towards doubling bilateral trade over the next three years.

Security: The leaders also spoke about the "common challenge of terrorism for our regions". 

Strengthening Strategic Partnership:

FM Saidov highlighted the "strong, positive and dynamic trend of our partnership in all areas". He added that both sides agreed to continue "close, trust-based, and regular dialogue between their foreign ministries". 

During a June meeting in Delhi, the two countries also *

signed the Programme of Cooperation between Foreign Ministries for 2025-2026, reflecting commitment to furthering the strategic partnership. 

Context:

Uzbekistan FM Bakhtiyor Saidov was in Delhi to participate in the 4th India-Central Asia Dialogue hosted by Jaishankar. The dialogue aims to take forward India-Central Asia relations in trade, connectivity, and security. The Indian Embassy in Uzbekistan said both leaders expressed confidence that "the positive trend between our countries will continue in the future".
