A meeting between DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has triggered political speculation about a possible realignment of regional parties ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

The meeting reportedly centred on concerns surrounding delimitation, an issue that has emerged as an important point of discussion among several southern and regional parties. Their concerns include the possible political and electoral consequences of any future exercise based on population.

Kanimozhi’s interaction with Uddhav Thackeray has also led to speculation over whether regional parties could explore a broader platform outside the existing Congress-led opposition framework.

However, there is currently no confirmation of a formal third front or an anti-Congress alliance emerging from the meeting. The discussions may instead reflect a growing effort by regional parties to coordinate on issues that could affect their political representation and influence.

With the 2029 Lok Sabha elections still several years away, any such political alignment remains at an early and speculative stage. Nevertheless, closer coordination between the DMK and Shiv Sena (UBT) could become significant if regional parties intensify discussions on delimitation and the future shape of opposition politics.
