"Katz: We Want To Hit Iran's Energy Infrastructure, But Washington Fears Global Oil Shock".
THE REPORT.
TEL AVIV, July 28, 2026 : sraeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the United States is currently preventing Israel from striking Iran's energy infrastructure, citing Washington's concerns over a wider regional war and a potential global oil crisis. The remarks were made in an interview with *Israel's Channel 14 television on Monday, amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.
We Very Much Want To Strike Iran's Energy Targets"
Katz said Israel views Iran's energy facilities as legitimate targets but is being held back by its key ally.
"We very much want to strike Iran's energy targets. The United States is not approving it at the moment because of the concern that Iran would attack neighbouring countries, causing a global oil crisis," Katz told Channel 14.He argued that such strikes would significantly degrade Iran's capabilities and economy.
"Prepared To Set Iran Back 40 Years":
The Defence Minister took a hardline stance, saying Israel is ready for a major escalation if given a green light.
"As far as we're concerned, we're prepared to set (Iran) back 40 years,"he added.
US Concerns:
According to Katz, the Biden administration's primary concern is that an Israeli attack on Iranian oil, gas, or power facilities would provoke retaliation against US allies in the Gulf and disrupt global energy markets.
The White House has not publicly commented on Katz's remarks. US officials have previously urged restraint to avoid triggering a broader conflict in the Middle East.
The exchange comes as both countries continue to coordinate on defense, while differing on the scope of potential action against Iran's nuclear and energy program.
