Sanctity Nahi Rahi: Anuradha Paudwal's Remarks on Same-Sex Rights Spark Debate".

Mumbai:Veteran playback singer Anuradha Paudwal has triggered a social media storm after linking LGBTQIA+ rights to the weakening of marriage in India.

What Anuradha Paudwal Said:

In an interview with Shubhankar Mishra, Paudwal said the "sanctity is no longer left in marriage"and blamed the rights given to the LGBTQIA+ community for it.

She questioned: "How are they contributing to society? I would like to know. In what way are they contributing?"

The singer added that she keeps hearing "ridiculous things" such as a woman having a child but the father not being the husband, and said "It is fine until a girl and a boy get married and start a family; they are doing it the right way".

Netizens Respond With Backlash:

Paudwal's comments drew criticism online.

One user wrote: "How can we measure someone's contribution when society has not always given them an equal chance to contribute in the first place?" pointing to historical discrimination in education, employment and housing.

Another said: *"They are willing to legally get married, legally adopt children who were thrown away by heterosexual people, and that says everything! STOP GIVING MICROPHONES TO anyone and everyone".

A fan commented: "I used to adore and respect you a lot since my childhood... This statement of yours has shaken my respect for you".

As of now, there has been no response from Anuradha Paudwal.

The debate comes amid ongoing discussions in India around same-sex marriage and LGBTQIA+ rights. The Supreme Court in 2023 ruled that there is no fundamental right to same-sex marriage, leaving it to Parliament to decide. Activists continue to argue for legal recognition, adoption rights, and protection from discrimination.
