"Conflicting Reports On Hormuz: Iran Rejects US-Qatari Compromise Cited By Israel"

THE REPORT.

TEHRAN : Iran has not reached any agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, IRGC-affiliated Fars News reported on Sunday, citing a source close to Tehran’s nuclear negotiating team. The report contradicts earlier claims that Tehran had accepted a US-Qatari compromise to resume maritime traffic through the vital waterway.

IRAN'S POSITION:

The source told Fars News that the strait would remain closed as long as US "hostile actions" continued against Iran.According to the source, vessels would only be allowed to pass through a designated route and only with permission from the IRGC Navy. The Strait of Hormuz handles nearly 20% of the world’s oil and LNG shipments, making any closure a major risk for global energy markets.

CONFLICTING REPORT:

Earlier, Israel’s Channel 12 reported that Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had accepted a US-Qatari compromise. Under that proposal, vessels would enter the Persian Gulf through Iranian territorial waters and exit through Omani waters. The report, citing two diplomats, said Oman had also accepted the plan but wanted clarification on whether Araghchi’s approval reflected the IRGC’s position.Channel 12 further claimed that Araghchi’s reported acceptance helped persuade US President Donald Trump to cancel planned strikes on Iran.

THE DISPUTE:

The conflicting accounts highlight divisions between Iran’s diplomatic team and its military establishment. The IRGC controls security in the Strait and has final say over naval operations there. No official statement has been issued by the US, Qatar, or Oman on the alleged compromise.
