Nepal Flood Impact Reaches Bihar; Govt Warns Against Eating Unidentified Fish

Floodwaters from Nepal have begun affecting Bihar, with water flowing into the state through the Kosi and Gandak river systems. The floods have also reportedly carried dead, unusual and unidentified fish into parts of Bihar. 

The Bihar government has issued a public advisory urging people not to catch, buy, sell or consume fish found in floodwaters until their origin and safety can be established. Officials said floodwaters can carry fish from ponds, rivers, lakes and reservoirs into areas where they are not normally found. 

Authorities have warned that fish exposed to polluted floodwater may come into contact with sewage, dead animals, bacteria, viruses and other contaminants, potentially creating health risks. 

The advisory comes amid severe flooding in Nepal, which has sent large volumes of water and debris downstream into the Bihar river system.
