NEW DELHI : AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that he will lead 100 supporters to the Prime Minister's residence at noon on Tuesday to submit over 2 lakh signed letters opposing the Centre’s E20 fuel policy and demanding immediate government action.

What Kejriwal Announced:

Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said the march follows a "National Town Hall Against E20" held on August 1 at the Constitution Club of India. He stated that the Town Hall was organised to bring together fuel and automobile experts, vehicle owners, and citizens to discuss concerns over ethanol-blended petrol. Kejriwal said the AAP’s online petition seeking to make E20 petrol optional has crossed more than two lakh signatures."After Saturday’s programme, I will visit the Prime Minister’s residence to submit the petition,"he said. 

AAP's Demands On E20:

Kejriwal has been campaigning against the mandatory rollout of E20 petrol - 20% ethanol blended fuel.

His key demands to PM Modi include:

Give consumers a choice between pure petrol and E20 at fuel stations.

Reduce the price of E20 to account for lower mileage .

He claimed nearly 30 crore two-wheelers and fourwheelers registered before 2023 are not E20 compliant, and owners are facing reduced fuel mileage, wear and tear, and damage to engine components. Kejriwal also wrote to auto companies like Maruti, Toyota and Hero asking if they will compensate customers if E20 damages pre 2023 vehicles. 

"This Is Only The Beginning"

The AAP chief said "This is only the beginning" and urged the Prime Minister to resolve the issue before it turns into a larger movement. He compared it to the youth protests that led to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, saying: "The youth of this country have made an arrogant government bow down... Now, I request the Prime Minister to also resolve the E20 issue".

The Town Hall was held at the Constitution Club and was open for both in-person and online participation. 

Context:

The Centre has been pushing for higher ethanol blending in petrol as part of its energy and farmers’ welfare policy. However, opposition has grown over concerns of mileage drop and compatibility with older vehicles.
