India Scores Major Railway Export Win as Texmaco Rail Secures $135 Million South Africa Order
India has scored a major railway export breakthrough, with Texmaco Rail & Engineering securing an international order worth $135 million (around ₹1,300 crore) from South African companies Tsiko Africa Logistics and Barberry Holdings.
Under the contract, Texmaco Rail will be responsible for the design, manufacture, supply and commissioning of diesel-electric locomotives for the South African market.
The order involves Wabtec ES43ACi diesel-electric locomotives, each equipped with a powerful 4,500-horsepower engine. The project is expected to be completed within 20 to 24 months after the signing of the definitive agreement.
The latest deal strengthens Texmaco Rail's international presence and highlights India's growing capabilities in railway engineering and rolling-stock manufacturing. The export order also provides the company with greater visibility in the global railway market.
The development is being viewed as another significant step in India's push to expand its railway technology and equipment exports, particularly into emerging international markets.
