Residential arrangements should be made for the Imam and Muezzin of the mosque; All India Ulema Board's demand to the Waqf Board

A representation was submitted to Maharashtra Waqf Board Chairman Sameer Qazi and Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mushir Ahmed on behalf of the All India Ulema Board demanding that residential arrangements be made for the Pesh Imams and Muazzins working in mosques in the state on available land owned by the Waqf.

The statement said that the Pesh Imam and Muezzin faithfully fulfill their religious, social and moral responsibilities in the society. Their regular service includes leading the five daily prayers, giving the Azaan, teaching the Quran to children and playing an important role in various religious programs. However, due to the low remuneration, many cannot afford their own homes and have to live in rented houses. Due to this, they are facing financial and practical difficulties.

The All India Ulema Board has demanded that all the Waqf institutions in the state, through a survey, inspect the living conditions of the Pesh Imams and Muezzins working in the mosques and provide them with residential houses on low rent as per the rules or construct residential houses as per the requirement, wherever there is available Waqf land. It has also been requested to formulate a separate policy in this regard and implement it effectively across the state.

State President Sheikh Asef Mehboob, District President Shahabuddin Syed, City President Ashraf Pathan, City Vice President Syed Hussain, Khizer Siddiqui, Ahmed Jalees, Lukman Qadri and other officials were present on this occasion.
