Lightning Strikes Kill Five in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Four Seriously Injured

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra: Five people were killed and four others seriously injured in two separate lightning-strike incidents in Sillod and Kannad talukas of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district amid heavy unseasonal rain and strong winds.

According to preliminary information, weather conditions suddenly deteriorated in rural areas of the district, with heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. The victims were reportedly caught in the open while working in fields or while seeking shelter from the rain.

Two Separate Incidents

In Sillod taluka, people working in an agricultural field were struck by lightning. The impact was fatal for those caught in the incident.

In Kannad taluka, a group of labourers reportedly took shelter under a tree to escape the rain when lightning struck the area. The incident resulted in further casualties and injuries.

Across the two incidents, five people died, while four others suffered serious burn injuries. The injured were initially taken to nearby sub-district and rural hospitals for emergency treatment. Some patients whose condition was reportedly critical were subsequently shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, commonly known as Ghati Hospital, for further treatment.

Administration Begins Panchnama

Following the incidents, local revenue and police officials reached the affected locations. The administration began preparing panchnamas (official spot and damage reports) and initiated the process for providing government assistance to the families of those who died.

The incidents have caused grief in the district, particularly among the affected rural communities.
