Historical Walk to Highlight Malik Ambar’s Water Management, Architecture and Urban Planning
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, August 27: A special ‘Mahmudpura Heritage Walk’ will be organised on Sunday, August 30, to introduce citizens, history enthusiasts and students to the rich historical legacy of the Nizamshahi period and the contributions of the celebrated Nizamshahi minister Malik Ambar.
The two-hour heritage walk will be jointly organised by the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation and the INTACH Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Chapter from 7 am to 9 am.
The initiative has been undertaken through the Municipal Corporation’s Tourism Department under the direction of Municipal Commissioner Amol Yedge, with guidance from Deputy Commissioner and Department Head Ankush Pandhare. The heritage walks are being organised as part of efforts to familiarise citizens with the city’s historical landmarks.
The walk will begin at the Nahar-e-Ambari Gomukh, opposite Taj Hotel, and conclude at the Shri Nilkantheshwar Mahadev Temple in Wankhedenagar.
Participants will get an opportunity to explore the historical architecture, construction techniques, water-management system and urban planning associated with the Nizamshahi era.
Major Attractions
The key attractions of the walk will include the historic mausoleum in the Mahmudpura area, the heritage of Nahar-e-Ambari, and the Baradari at Shri Nilkantheshwar Mahadev Temple, built in the Rajput Chhatri architectural style.
The organisers said the heritage walk will go beyond monuments and provide participants with an understanding of the region’s historic water systems, architecture, social life and city planning.
The initiative has received considerable participation from citizens, students and history enthusiasts during earlier heritage walks. Organisers Assistant Commissioner Rutuja Patil and INTACH guides Sanket Kulkarni and Aditya Waghmare have appealed to history lovers, researchers, students and citizens to participate in large numbers and discover the historical heritage of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
