Telangana renames road near US Consulate as part of global branding drive; Ratan Tata, Google also to get roads; BJP, CPI(M) slam move.

Hyderabad, June 18, 2026:- The Telangana government will inaugurate *‘Donald Trump Avenue’ in Hyderabad on Monday, June 23 naming a key road beside the US Consulate General in the Financial District after US President Donald Trump. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor are expected to attend the ceremony.

Why Trump? Part of 'Innovation-Driven' Branding Push.

The road-naming is part of the Revanth Reddy government’s initiative to position Telangana as a hub for innovation-driven development* by honoring “globally renowned personalities and companies”.

Official sources said: “The move is expected to attract global attention as Hyderabad and the US share strong business ties driving investments, jobs, and mutual growth.”

The proposal was first announced in December 2025 but kept on hold amid global uncertainties, including US tariff disputes and West Asia tensions. It was revived as the geopolitical environment stabilized.

Event Details: Diplomacy Ahead of July4.

The inauguration on June 23 will be a diplomatic event* featuring high-level festivities leading into America's Independence Day celebrations on July 4. The Telangana government says it highlights the deepening economic relationship between the state and the US, especially in technology and innovation.

Hyderabad has emerged as a major destination for *Global Capability Centres (GCCs), with US firms like Costco, Eli Lilly, HCA Healthcare, McDonald’s, Nationwide, Vanguard, T-Mobile, and Regeneron setting up operations.

More Roads: Ratan Tata, Google Also Honored.

Alongside Trump Avenue, Telangana will:

Name the upcoming greenfield radial road at the proposed *Regional Ring Road (RRR) after late industrialist Ratan Tata

Designate a prominent stretch ‘Google Street’ to recognize the global impact of Google and Google Maps .

Officials said more roads may be named after tech giants like Microsoft to showcase Hyderabad as a global IT hub.

Political Backlash: BJP, CPI(M) Attack Congress Govt The move sparked criticism:

CPI(M) Polit Bureau member M A Baby demanded withdrawal, saying: “Claims of carrying on the ideals of our anti-imperialist resistance movement must not be limited to words.” He urged the Congress High Command to intervene.

Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao called it “hypocrisy” by Congress: “The Leader of Propaganda (LoP), who coined the false ‘Modi compromised, Modi surrendered to the US’ narrative… has gone into radio silence as his own Congress government in Telangana renames a road after US President Donald Trump.”

He added: “Now Mr Rahul Gandhi should tell whether Revanth Reddy has surrendered to Trump Or Rahul Gandhi surrendered to Trump.”

Govt Defends: 'Diplomatic Gesture, Not Politics'.

The Telangana government maintains the initiative is not political but intended to highlight *Hyderabad’s growing economic and diplomatic ties with the US and strengthen the city’s global investment profile.

The idea was first floated during the Telangana Rising Global Summit and US-India Strategic Partnership Forum in 2025.
