India’s West Asia Strategy: Protecting 1 Crore Indians and Securing Energy Supplies
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar told Parliament that India faced major diplomatic and strategic challenges as the West Asia conflict intensified, with the safety of nearly one crore Indians living and working across Gulf countries emerging as a key priority.
India stepped up engagement with Gulf partners while closely monitoring developments and working to protect its citizens and national interests. The government also focused on maintaining the flow of oil, gas and other essential supplies, amid disruptions to regional shipping routes and growing concerns over energy security.
Jaishankar has stressed that India’s approach is centred on dialogue, diplomacy, de-escalation and the safety of Indian citizens. At the same time, New Delhi has been coordinating with international partners and suppliers to keep critical maritime and energy routes functioning.
