Supreme Court Demands Strict Action Against Politicians Accused of Assaulting Doctors

The Supreme Court on Monday expressed serious concern over the growing incidents of doctors and hospital staff being assaulted by members of political parties in Maharashtra.
The court directed the Maharashtra government to take immediate action against politicians accused of attacking medical professionals, stressing that those involved should not be allowed to remain free.
The remarks came during the hearing of a case involving Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Sukrya Mhatre, who is accused of assaulting doctors and hospital staff at Shastrinagar Hospital in Kalyan. Mhatre withdrew his plea challenging the bail conditions, while the Maharashtra government said it had sought cancellation of his bail.
The Supreme Court's strong observations also came against the backdrop of another recent alleged assault at a hospital in Palghar, where a case was registered against several people, including members of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction.
The court's intervention has once again brought the safety of doctors and healthcare workers into focus, with the judiciary emphasising that violence against medical professionals cannot be taken lightly.
