Sonam Wangchuk Says Cockroach Janta Party Has ‘Political Ambitions’, Urges It to Remain Apolitical

New Delhi: Environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk has said he believes the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and its convenor Abhijeet Dipke may have political ambitions, while stressing that this is his own assessment and not something the group has directly told him.

Speaking during a conversation with podcaster Prakhar Gupta, Wangchuk said he had closely assessed the movement and felt that its members “certainly have political ambitions.” However, he clarified that there was nothing inherently wrong with aspiring to enter politics.

Wangchuk Calls for a Neutral Pressure Group

Wangchuk urged Dipke and other members of the movement to preserve its neutral and apolitical character. He said the platform could achieve more by remaining a pressure group rather than becoming directly aligned with electoral politics.

According to Wangchuk, the public currently views the participants primarily as a student movement, rather than as members of a political party.

He also said that political ambitions could eventually be positive, particularly for young leaders, but maintained that the movement should first protect its credibility as a neutral, apolitical platform.
