‘Abducted By Police’: Imran Khan’s Family Reacts To Aleema Khan’s Arrest, Demands Her Whereabouts

Lahore, September 20, 2026: The arrest of Aleema Khan, sister of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, has triggered a sharp reaction from his family and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which accused authorities of unlawfully taking her into custody.

Aleema Khan was arrested in Lahore on Sunday, according to PTI and family sources. Reuters reported that Lahore's district administration ordered her detention for 30 days, citing concerns that her presence in public could pose a threat to public safety. 

PTI and members of Imran Khan's family, however, described the incident as an “abduction” by police. They demanded that authorities disclose Aleema's whereabouts and immediately allow her family and lawyers access to her. 

Family Says Her Whereabouts Were Unknown

According to family accounts, Aleema was intercepted by police after leaving her Lahore residence. Her vehicle was later found at a police station, while relatives said they initially could not establish where she had been taken. PTI leaders also alleged that she was moved to an undisclosed location.

Reports said her detention was carried out under Pakistan's Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law, with authorities citing concerns over the maintenance of public peace. 

Arrest Comes Ahead Of PTI March

Aleema Khan's detention comes just days before PTI's planned September 27 march to Islamabad, which the party has announced as a mobilisation demanding Imran Khan's release. The arrest has intensified tensions between the government and PTI ahead of the proposed protest. 

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan condemned the arrest and called for Aleema's release, while the party said further action would be announced. 

The Pakistani authorities have not publicly endorsed the family's characterization of the detention as an “abduction”; the reported official basis is preventive detention under the MPO framework.
