Iran Sets Conditions for US Talks, Awaits Trump’s Response

Iran has conveyed conditions for negotiations with the United States through Qatari and Pakistani mediators, with Tehran demanding an end to the war on all fronts, the release of seized Iranian assets and the lifting of the naval blockade.

Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said on September 19 that Tehran remained in contact with a Qatari mediator who had passed Iran’s conditions to Washington. Rezaei said Iran was now waiting for a response from US President Donald Trump.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Rezaei argued that accepting the conditions would be in Washington’s interest. He also claimed that Trump had miscalculated Iran and said US threats would not achieve their objectives.

At the same time, Rezaei warned that Iran was prepared for what he described as a “decisive war” and claimed Tehran was aware of weaknesses in the US military.

“We are more prepared than ever to confront them,” Rezaei said, according to remarks carried by Iranian state television. 

He further warned that Iran could target US bases and interests across the region if Washington launched an attack. Rezaei also said Tehran had not changed its stated nuclear doctrine, while adding that Iran could not predict what might happen in the future.
