Dhoni Says No to Impact Player Role; Full-Time Wicketkeeping His Priority
MS Dhoni Rejects Impact Player Role, CSK’s IPL 2027 Plans Remain Uncertain
Former Chennai Super Kings batter Subramaniam Badrinath has revealed that MS Dhoni does not intend to play as an Impact Player if he continues in the IPL.
According to Badrinath, Dhoni wants to remain a full-time wicketkeeper, meaning he would be on the field for the entire 20 overs. The Impact Player option could have reduced the veteran's workload, but Dhoni reportedly does not see that as the way he wants to continue his career.
The development has added to speculation over Dhoni’s IPL 2027 future. The 45-year-old missed the entire 2026 IPL season because of injury, while his fitness has remained a major factor in discussions about his playing future.
Badrinath believes the Impact Player role could have been tactically useful for CSK, but Dhoni’s preference for full-time wicketkeeping leaves the franchise waiting for greater clarity on whether the legendary former captain will return in 2027.
