Amit Shah Sets Targets for Full Implementation of New Criminal Laws, Faster Case Disposal

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has set a target for the 100% implementation of India’s three new criminal codes within the next year, along with faster disposal of criminal cases and a 25% increase in the conviction rate within three years.

Addressing the concluding session of the National Security Strategy Conference, Shah directed police forces and security agencies across the country to strengthen internal security and prepare for potential threats over the next 15–20 years.

Focus on Preventing Threats Before They Escalate

Shah said security agencies should not wait for a challenge to turn into a major crisis. Instead, he called for strategies to identify emerging threats at an early stage and eliminate them before they become serious security concerns.

He stressed that future security planning must take into account a range of challenges, including global instability, energy insecurity, disruptions to supply chains, radicalisation, cyber threats and misinformation.

Shah also called for closer coordination between central security agencies and state police forces to maintain strong internal security and respond effectively to emerging threats.
