Protest at Lok Kalyan Marg.

Rahul Gandhi, along with senior Congress leaders and Opposition MPs, gathered at Lok Kalyan Marg to protest against the Centre. The leaders raised slogans demanding justice for students and an inquiry into recent exam controversies.

As the protesters tried to march further towards the Prime Minister’s residence, Delhi Police stopped them and detained Rahul Gandhi along with other Opposition leaders and workers. They were taken away in police vehicles and buses stationed near the protest site.

Police said prohibitory orders were in force in the area and permission for the march had not been granted.

Opposition's Reaction:

Calling the detention undemocratic, Rahul Gandhi said:

"This is an attack on every Indian family. The government believes it can avoid accountability, but this time it will not be able to."  He urged citizens to join the Congress protest, saying those who believe students deserve justice must raise their voice.  Other Opposition leaders present at the spot also condemned the police action and called it an attempt to suppress democratic dissent.

Government and Police Stand:

Delhi Police stated that the detention was carried out to maintain law and order in the high-security zone. Officials said the protesters were released later after being taken to a nearby police station.

The BJP rejected the Congress allegations, saying the Opposition was politicising student issues and trying to create disruption during the Parliament session.

Background:

The protest comes amid growing confrontation between the Opposition and the government over student protests, alleged exam paper leaks, and police crackdown on demonstrators. The Congress has been raising the issue both inside Parliament and on the streets, demanding accountability from the Centre.
