"SC Slams Ghaziabad Hospitals For Denying Treatment To 4-Year-Old Rape Survivor, Calls It 'Disgrace To Humanity'".

New Delhi:The Supreme Court on Friday strongly reprimanded two private hospitals in Ghaziabad for refusing to admit a four-year-old rape survivor, who later died.

WHAT THE COURT SAID:

A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant sharply criticized the lack of compassion shown by the doctors.

The CJI observed that the child was ignored because she came from a poor background, calling such behavior a "disgrace to humanity". He further said the doctors involved should remove the title "doctor" from their names.

"If doctors fail to perform their duty, they have no right to call themselves doctors," the Chief Justice remarked.

The Court noted that even if facilities were lacking, the child should have been shifted to another hospital with proper care instead of being turned away.

CASE DETAILS:

The case pertains to the death of the four-year-old girl who was allegedly denied admission by private hospitals in Ghaziabad. She was later declared dead. The Supreme Court pulled up the hospitals for not providing even initial treatment to the victim.

COURT DIRECTIONS:

The Supreme Court has directed the two hospitals to voluntarily provide financial assistance to the victim’s family. The Court warned that failure to do so would result in penalties.

The remarks have sparked widespread outrage over medical negligence and denial of emergency care to vulnerable patients.
